At LHT, we believe that true wellbeing comes from helping the body find balance - and one of the gentlest yet powerful ways to achieve this is through Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). This unique massage technique has been loved for decades for its ability to ease fluid retention, support detoxification, and leave you feeling lighter, calmer, and deeply restored.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised, light-touch massage that works directly with your body’s lymphatic system. Unlike traditional massage, which focuses on muscles, MLD helps stimulate the natural flow of lymph fluid - a vital part of your immune system that removes waste, toxins, and excess fluid. Think of it as a gentle “reset” for your body’s internal cleansing system.
How Does It Work?
The lymphatic system is like a hidden network of vessels that carry away waste and support your body’s defences. It is responsible for removing toxins and waste, circulating immune cells to fight infection and to regulate fluid balance.
However, because it doesn’t have its own pump (like the heart does for blood), it can sometimes become sluggish. Stress, lack of movement, illness, or surgery can all slow things down.
Through soft, rhythmic hand movements, an MLD therapist applies precise pressure to key areas, encouraging the lymph to flow more freely. This process helps clear blockages, reduce fluid build-up, and rebalance your body’s natural rhythm.
Each treatment lasts between 40-60 minutes, allowing your therapist to focus on one to two chosen areas - such as the stomach, thighs, or arms, or for maximum benefits - a full body MLD.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of treatments depends on your goals.
For general wellness or relaxation: a short course of 3–6 sessions can help you feel refreshed and revitalised.
For targeted concerns (such as post-surgery swelling, fluid retention, or detox support): regular sessions - once a month, may be recommended for optimal results. Many clients choose to continue with monthly or seasonal treatments as part of their self-care routine once they reap the benefits. Also it is extremely relaxing! For post surgery benefits, your doctor may reccommend you start treatments soon after the operation and generally twice a week is recommended.

What Happens During a Treatment
During your Manual Lymphatic Drainage session, you’ll be invited to relax comfortably on the treatment table as your therapist performs gentle, rhythmic movements. These soft, flowing, and repetitive strokes are designed to calm the nervous system and promote a deep sense of relaxation.
MLD is never painful - the touch is light and soothing. Many clients find themselves drifting into a meditative or even sleepy state as the body begins to unwind.
Your therapist will use specialised techniques to encourage lymph flow through key areas of the body, including the neck, underarms, arms, abdomen, legs, and back. Throughout the treatment, your comfort and modesty are always fully respected.
Aftercare: How to Look After Yourself Post-Treatment
To maximise the benefits of your session, we recommend:

● Avoid strenuous exercise.
MLD is not recommended for those with:
● Active infections such as flu or fever
● Untreated cancer
● Blood clots (thrombosis)
● Severe heart or kidney conditions
● Pregnancy
● Unstable high blood pressure

Your wellbeing is our priority. If you have any medical concerns, we encourage you to consult your healthcare provider before booking. Clients who have completed cancer treatment will need to provide medical clearance prior to enjoying MLD.
